At Embry-Riddle, you can convert your Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) and your Air Transport Pilot License (ATPL) into university transfer credits toward either a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics or a Bachelor of Science in Pilot Operations.
As the table below shows, a typical U.S. bachelor’s degree is a four-year program requiring 120 credits (240 ECTS) to complete. At Embry-Riddle, pilots can earn up to 45 transfer credits (90 ECTS) for their MPL/ATPL, depending on their chosen program. Additional transfer credits may be granted based on the type of high school diploma obtained, such as the German G-9 Abitur, which takes 13 years to complete.

The length of your studies depends entirely on how many courses you complete each year. Most undergraduate students take 3-5 courses annually, but it is possible to complete as many as 20 courses in a single year. Students have up to seven years to finish their bachelor’s program.
Our online degree programs offer multiple start dates throughout the year, allowing students to learn on their own schedule. Instead of semesters, we provide nine-week terms during which undergraduate students can enroll in up to four courses.
Please note that the final number of transfer credits will be determined by our academic evaluators, who will assess your professional licenses and specialized ratings during the application process. All applicants with non-U.S. high school diplomas must submit their official documents to a third-party Foreign Credential Evaluation Service. This process will determine whether a) your high school diploma is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma, and b) if you will receive any U.S. transfer credits for your high school courses.
Senior pilots with an Abitur, MPL/ATPL and 12-plus years of work experience may be eligible for an “Experiential Learning Evaluation,” which may entitle them to apply directly to most of our 10-course master’s programs (not all of them are aviation-related) or to one of our four-course graduate certificate programs. Completing a certificate program would develop your specialty knowledge base in 12 months. We have an extensive list of subject matters to choose from, including:
- Aeronautics
- Aviation & Aerospace Sustainability
- Aviation Cybersecurity
- Aviation Safety
- Human Factors
- Project Management
- And many others
The Embry-Riddle Europe office provides support and academic advising throughout the application process.

Aircraft mechanics are part of the maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) sector. The MRO sector is one of the largest employment areas in aviation and aerospace, focusing on enhancing aircraft safety and quality through maintenance and modifications. Mechanics work in various settings, using tools and equipment to conduct inspections, preventive maintenance and system alterations.
If you're passionate about aviation but prefer a role outside of piloting, consider a career as an aircraft mechanic. Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aviation Maintenance or Aeronautics, or a graduate degree in Aeronautics, from Embry‑Riddle can set you on this path.
Airports are like small cities — some have hundreds of thousands of passengers and employees passing through daily. Aviation business administration roles encompass air cargo management, airport safety and airline operations, blending aviation with business.
Aviation business management includes responsibilities within aviation authorities or airport operators, focusing on commercial management, marketing and development. Positions may involve overseeing airline or airport operations as a team leader or project manager.
To succeed in any management position, you need a solid business background and aviation knowledge, including economics, aeronautical science, statistics, marketing and international business.
Embry-Riddle’s Bachelor of Science in Aviation Business Administration, Master of Science in Aeronautics and Master of Business Administration in Aviation provide you with knowledge that enables you to go on to become an effective leader.
Safety is paramount across the aviation industry — from airport operations to flight operations to hangar operations and beyond.
Safety management personnel aim to minimize danger but have broader responsibilities. They are involved in various flight sectors, including aircraft design, manufacturing, airports and air traffic control, all while managing budgets.
To become an air safety manager, you need substantial research and investigation skills, a technical background and the ability to communicate effectively.
Embry-Riddle’s Bachelor of Science in Aviation Safety and Master of Science in Aeronautics, with a specialization in Safety, could help prepare you for a future in safety management.
