Learn English While Earning College Credit

The Embry‑Riddle Language Institute (ERLI) Pathway Program allows international students to take English language courses while also taking academic courses that count toward their degree. If you have been admitted to a degree program but have not yet met the English proficiency requirement for full admission, the Pathway Program may be for you.

Through the Pathway Program, you'll earn academic credit toward your undergraduate or graduate degree while improving your English and adjusting to the U.S. academic system in a supported environment.

You must be provisionally accepted to an academic program at Embry‑Riddle to join the ERLI Pathway Program. This means the student meets all admission requirements except the English language requirement. Both the English and academic courses are chosen together with an academic advisor. This ensures that you receive the right level of language support and enroll in academic classes that match your skills and help you make progress toward your degree.

The ERLI Pathway Program is currently offered only at the Daytona Beach Campus.

Eligibility

New students are eligible to enter the ERLI Pathway Program if they have:
  • Provisional admission to an Embry‑Riddle academic program (undergraduate or graduate) AND
  • A minimum language score of
    • TOEFL iBT score of 55 (for tests before January 21, 2026)
    • TOEFL iBT score of 3.5 (for tests on or after January 21, 2026)
    • Duolingo score of 85
    • IELTS score of 5.5
    • Cambridge score of 162
Students who are currently enrolled in ERLI classes are eligible to enter the Pathway Program if they:
  • Studied in ERLI the previous semester (full or midterm)
  • Are in good academic standing with grades C and above
  • Have provisional admission to an Embry-Riddle academic program (undergraduate or graduate) upon completion of the language program
  • Place in Level 4 or higher
International flight students who earned elementary or pre-elementary in the English for Flight Training Assessmentâ„¢ (EFTA) and want to improve their English skills before beginning flight training are eligible for the ERLI Pathway Program.

Your Pathway Journey

  • Pathway students pay ERLI tuition rates for ERLI classes.  Students pay Embry-Riddle tuition rates for university classes, which vary depending on whether the student takes undergraduate or graduate-level courses.
  • Pathway students must pay mandatory fees as applicable.
  • Pathway students who live on campus must pay for room and board at the current university rates.

For more on payment deadlines, how to submit payments and payment plan options, visit the Student Financial Services Office.

The ERLI Pathway Program is designed as two-semester program:

  • Semester 1: Students take 4 ERLI classes and 1 academic class.
  • Semester 2: Students take 3 ERLI classes and 2 academic classes.

Students will be placed in Semester 1 or 2, depending on their official test scores and the ERLI Placement Test. Some students may be eligible for full academic study after successfully completing one semester of the ERLI Pathway Program.

An academic advisor will recommend English classes so that the student receives the right language support and takes academic classes that fit their skills and degree plan.

The ERLI Pathway Program is typically offered in fall and spring semesters.

  1. Apply to an Embry-Riddle academic undergraduate or graduate program. Please note that academic requirements for each program may vary. Contact the admissions advisors listed below if you have questions about a specific degree program.
  2. After submitting your Embry-Riddle application, submit to notify ERLI of your interest in joining the Pathway Program.
  3. Someone from ERLI will contact you by email to guide you through the next steps.
