Assistantships
Assistantships are open to accepted graduate students with full graduate status, who have a minimum 3.0 undergraduate cumulative GPA. A graduate assistantship is a contract between the student and the department sponsoring the assistantship position. Candidates will perform duties in the areas of teaching, administrative, or research in exchange for a tuition waiver and/or stipend.Frequently Asked Questions

The information provided on your FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for the FWS Program. You must have financial need to receive FWS.
To be eligible, you must:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Meet the Standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- Be a degree-seeking student and be enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident or eligible non-citizen.
- Have a valid form of identification.
- Have a completed to-do list/review status.
- Complete verification if selected.
- Complete any outstanding admission contingencies.

Unlike other financial aid awards, the FWS funds are not provided as a refund through the Financial Aid Office. Instead, these funds are paid directly to you as wages.

Funding for the FWS program at Embry-Riddle is limited, so we cannot guarantee that every eligible student will be awarded. Therefore, we cannot emphasize enough the importance of completing the FAFSA as early as possible. FWS eligibility is determined annually, so submitting the FAFSA each year is essential.
Students paid with FWS funds will have an FWS award added to their College Financing Plan (also known as Financial Aid Offer). When a student has earned their FWS award, they may be evaluated for an FWS increase, or future earnings will be paid by the hiring department.

FWS is unlike other financial aid awards. Students awarded FWS and working will receive a paycheck every two weeks for hours worked during the pay period.
- FWS will not be applied to the student’s account to pay Embry-Riddle charges.
- FWS does not disburse in one lump sum.
- Paychecks are mailed or directly deposited (if enrolled) into the student employee’s personal banking account.
