The Office of Undergraduate Research hosts a series of programs and events throughout the year that showcase student achievements, connect students with research opportunities and strengthen Embry-Riddle’s culture of scholarship and discovery. These events bring together students, faculty, staff, industry partners and the broader community to celebrate and support undergraduate research.
Research Match Day
Hosted at the beginning of each semester, Research Match Day is the gateway for students seeking research opportunities. Faculty, labs and research groups present their ongoing projects, and students can meet potential mentors, learn about openings and find a place to begin or continue their research journey. This event has become one of the most effective ways for students to connect with research across all colleges.
Student Research Symposium (SRS)
Held each November at the Mori Hosseini Student Union, the Student Research Symposium is the signature research event at the Daytona Beach Campus. Students present posters across undergraduate and graduate sessions, share their work with the campus community, receive feedback from faculty judges and compete for Best Poster Awards.
Discovery Day
Discovery Day takes place each spring and highlights student creativity, innovation and inquiry across all disciplines. Students present posters, prototypes, performances, demonstrations and scholarly works. This campuswide celebration encourages students to explore new ideas, connect with research groups and discover future opportunities.
Summer Research Symposium (SummeRS)
Each July, SURF Fellows and other summer researchers present their findings at the Summer Research Symposium. This event provides students with the opportunity to share progress, develop presentation skills and practice communicating research to diverse audiences. Faculty, staff and community partners attend to support and engage with student work.
MOAS Research Showcase
In partnership with the Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS), students present their work to the community during the summer MOAS Research Showcase. This event highlights the impact of Embry-Riddle student research beyond campus and strengthens public engagement with science, technology and innovation.
Workshops and Training Sessions
Throughout the year, OUR offers a variety of professional development workshops that support student success. Topics include writing abstracts, preparing posters, managing data, using generative AI responsibly and developing core research skills. Faculty-focused workshops are offered in collaboration with the Centers for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE).
Stay Connected
Event dates, registration links and announcements are posted on the OUR SharePoint page and distributed through campus communications. Students are encouraged to attend, participate, present and learn from the vibrant research community at Embry-Riddle.
The Office of Undergraduate Research provides several funding programs that help students pursue research, present their work and grow as scholars. These opportunities support conference participation, semester and yearlong research projects, and summer research experiences.
Advancing Undergraduate Research Achievements (AURA)
Advancing Undergraduate Research Achievements (AURA) support students who are engaged in ongoing research with a faculty mentor during the fall or spring term. The program encourages steady project progress and helps students strengthen their academic and professional skills.
Ignite Grants
Ignite Grants support undergraduate-led research teams conducting long-term projects that may span up to one academic year. Proposals are submitted in the spring term for the following academic year. Ignite Grants provide students with the opportunity to pursue sustained, collaborative research experiences that promote deeper inquiry and skill development.
Spark Travel Grant
The Spark Travel Grant supports ERAU Daytona Beach undergraduate students who are presenting their research at off-campus academic conferences. Students may give poster presentations, oral presentations, technical demonstrations or performances. Applicants must have an accepted presentation and work under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURF)
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows program supports undergraduate students who wish to dedicate the summer to research and scholarly writing. SURF offers an immersive experience that helps students build strong research skills, develop articles or conference papers and collaborate closely with faculty mentors. Fellows present their work at the Summer Research Symposium.
Faculty Support
The Office of Undergraduate Research provides targeted support to help faculty strengthen and expand undergraduate research opportunities in their courses, labs and programs.
