Uncrewed Systems Flight Training
The Worldwide & Online Department of Flight is a global leader in preparing students to operate uncrewed aircraft systems with safety and precision. The fleet includes more than 100 aircraft, ranging from commercial off-the-shelf to experimental and custom-built models.
Students train with advanced sensors and software, including infrared, multispectral and hyperspectral cameras, LIDAR and chemical identification tools. This hands-on experience with leading-edge technology helps them enter the workforce with a competitive advantage.
Through partnerships with government agencies and civilian UAS organizations, the department ensures that students have access to the latest technology and technical support throughout their studies.
Global Leadership in UAS Safety and Training
Safety is at the heart of everything we do. The Department of Flight was the first in the world to be designated as an AUVSI Trusted UAS Operator training provider and the first to earn AUVSI Level-3 Instructor status. We maintain a strong safety culture, with faculty who understand the aircraft and systems inside and out, strictly follow FAA regulations and provide a rigorous qualification process for students. We’re here to prepare the next generation of aviation professionals with the knowledge, skills and judgment they need to thrive in a fast-evolving global industry. The Department of Flight supports students, faculty and staff with access to uncrewed systems, advanced training and research support.
We achieve this through:
- A strong safety culture at every level
- Top-quality faculty and instructional staff
- Hands-on, scenario-based flight training
- Industry partnerships and collaborations
- Modern flight systems and tools are integrated into the curriculum
- A structured, standardized and professional training program
- Ongoing program improvement through quality management
- Courses aligned with real-world industry expectations
Interested in earning even more credentials? At the undergraduate level, students can add the Small Uncrewed Aircraft System Operation Minor to strengthen their focus in this field. Graduate students can pursue the Small Uncrewed Aircraft System Operation Specialization as part of their advanced studies. Both options are designed to build knowledge, skills and abilities in UAS safety, operations and applications while supporting your path toward sUAS operator certification within the academic structure of your degree.
Note: Students pursuing the minor or specialization in Small Uncrewed Aircraft System Operations flight training courses (including UNSY 435, 440, 520 and 620) must be physically located in the U.S. during the courses and able to obtain a U.S. Part 107 remote pilot certification.
