The Department of War SkillBridge Program enables active-duty service members to gain valuable civilian work experience during their final 180 days of service. Through this program, service members are connected with private and public sector organizations that provide internship opportunities, supporting their transition by helping them build resumes, explore career interests, acquire job skills and obtain federal government work experience relevant to future employment.
Eligible service members may receive up to 180 days of permissive duty, contingent upon unit commander approval, allowing them to fully engage in comprehensive training with designated industry partners. These partners deliver practical training and hands-on experience in high-demand fields, while also having the opportunity to assess participants’ suitability for potential employment.
In addition, many authorized SkillBridge partners offer training and employment pathways to veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses. While these specific programs are not financially supported by the Department of War, they may be available under different terms than those offered to other groups.
The Department of War and Service Branches do not endorse any company or sponsor, or their products or services.
