Flight Training Costs and Resources
Embry-Riddle’s flight program is designed to allow students to earn their ratings in three years (unlike many other schools). Embry-Riddle also lobbied Congress to allow its students to receive a restricted ATP with 500 less hours than the FAA-mandated 1,500 hours, allowing our students to be years ahead of others in their career field. Students pay after each flight activity and costs vary by student ability, flight ratings being pursued, and other factors. Flight training takes place in state-of-the-art aircraft — Cessna 172s and Diamond DA42s — with Garmin G1000 glass cockpits and ADS-B real-time radar.
In addition to academic tuition, flight students should budget between $20,000 and $30,000 per academic year while actively enrolled in flight courses. Having sufficient funds available at the start — and throughout — each course ensures continuity of training and protects against additional costs that can result from extended gaps in flying.
Published course cost estimates are based on minimum course requirements. Because students advance through each phase of training based on their individual flying proficiency, budgeting beyond the minimum is strongly encouraged.
Embry-Riddle gives all flight students on-demand access to their resource rates through ETA (Electronic Training Administration), the university's flight management system. Students can generate a cost report at any time to monitor training expenses as they progress through each course.
One additional planning note: completing at least one full summer semester of flight training is highly recommended. Flying through the summer keeps students progressing on pace and supports uninterrupted advancement toward their degree.

The required flight training hours for each flight course are as indicated on the Training Course Outlines (TCO). The associated costs per hour, per resource, for the TCO hours are the maximum amounts VA will consider for payment. If flight training hours exceed the number of TCO hours approved by the State Approving Agency (SAA), any additional training expenses must be paid by the student and not VA. VA will cover flight courses only as part of an SAA-approved degree program requirements that require a component of flight. Students who receive VA educational assistance for programs other than approved degree programs with a component of flight may not take flight courses as electives or to fulfill other academic requirements. Flight courses taken outside of the SAA-approved degree programs will not be covered with VA educational assistance.

Additional Costs and Resources
Direct Costs are charges billed to your student account each semester and include tuition, fees, campus housing and dining plan/food.
Indirect Costs are an estimate of additional funds needed. You should allow for expenses such as books, supplies, personal hygiene, laundry and transportation. Although these expenses may be covered by financial aid, we do not recommend borrowing for them unless no other funds are available.
Net Direct Costs are determined by subtracting your annual financial aid awards from the estimated direct costs. These costs may be covered through external scholarships, a Federal Parent Loan (PLUS), a private loan and/or our payment plan.
The Embry-Riddle Language Institute (ERLI) provides academic English language and culture instruction to non-native speakers of English. Visit the ERLI site to learn more and view costs.
Housing and food estimates are based on average costs. All first-year students are required to live on campus for the first two academic years. Transfer students who are 21 years of age or older on or before Sept. 1 of their year of entry to the university are not required to live on campus but may request to live on campus if space is available. Please reference the catalog for the complete housing policy and exemptions.
A minimum meal plan is required for students living on campus. The required 757 Express plan provides 14 meals per week and $100 in Sodexo bucks and is $3,365 per semester.
In addition to mandatory fees outlined in the cost of attendance, students may incur other fees like parking.
All students will be provided and charged for student health insurance. Students with comparable coverage may opt out by submitting the waiver form during the waiver period. For reference, the preliminary rate for the 2025-2026 academic year was $1,982 per academic year. Read more about the coverage and how to waive out on the .
This online tool will help estimate the amount of financial aid you could be offered and the net amount you may be expected to pay toward the cost of attending Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach.
