A design studio and a vehicle development bay make the Formula SAE Lab the hub of one of the largest motorsports activities at Embry‑Riddle.

Housing this student-driven competition team, the laboratory supports graduate and undergraduate research, including several IGNITE< research grants and grants from other sources dealing with projects related to advanced materials, vehicle dynamics, engines and aerodynamics.

The lab is heavily utilized by students in the High-Performance Vehicles track of the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, as well as other students in the degree programs offered through the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Students from all majors can get involved and register for the University Motorsports team. They will apply engineering and business concepts to real-world problems and will be able to learn hands-on skills that are relevant to the automotive industry.

In less than nine months (September to April), an FSAE Formula Car is designed from scratch, built and tested and then sent to an international competition in May with more than 120 universities from all over the world.

This space is card-access controlled, enabling student researchers to work in the space on their own schedule with faculty permission, and is used as part of the Mechanical Engineering senior design for the high-performance vehicles track.
