The controls and instrumentation components of Aerospace Engineering curricula are supported in this lab.
Feedback control systems play a vital role in the mission success of aerospace vehicles, and their role is expected to increase in the future. Indeed, for all (modern) jet fighters, launch vehicles and satellites, the consequence of a failure in the feedback control systems is that the vehicles will either “fall out of the sky” or will be lost. Feedback control systems are as important as structures and propulsion systems in present and future aerospace vehicles.
This space combines traditional classroom-based learning with hands-on activities and interaction with experiments. Here, students use theory, analytic derivations, and computer simulations to learn the fundamentals of control in the context of aerospace vehicle control applications. The interdisciplinary lab is managed by the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
