Students collaborate on simulation-based aviation projects, integrating flight operations and air traffic control. The lab mirrors real-world aviation workflows and systems.
Students in the Aeronautical Science and Uncrewed Aircraft Systems programs in the College of Aviation participate in collaborative projects that take place in the Airway Science Laboratory. Designed to encourage teamwork and cooperative learning, the lab provides students with dual-monitor workstations and partner seating in addition to worktables with power and internet supply.
With sophisticated simulation technology and processing software, this lab enables students to participate in culminating capstone projects and research that directly assist them in cultivating real-world skills that can be applied to diverse employment opportunities.
Uncrewed Aircraft Systems students can fly and manipulate aircraft using simulation software, coordinate with command-and-control, collect real-life data and learn how to process and present it to potential customers. Aeronautical Science students spend their time familiarizing themselves with aircraft instruments, performance characteristics, capabilities and standard procedures. Students participating in the Aeronautical Science capstone also fly aircraft using the flight simulators located in the laboratory while being controlled simultaneously and in real-time by students in the Air Traffic Management program in the Air Traffic Control Laboratory.
