Overview

Dr. Robert Norcross is an associate adjunct professor at the Worldwide Campus. He holds a DBA from Northcentral University (now Northern University) and an M.S. in Aeronautical Science/Management/Safety. Dr. Norcross retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years in aviation maintenance, and he is currently the civilian Aerospace Engineer for the Headquarters Air Combat Command (ACC).

Dr. Norcross specializes in aircraft structures, mechanical systems, accident investigations, data analytics and integration of new technology in aviation. He integrates his expertise with fighters, remotely piloted, helicopters, commercial derivatives, command and control and intelligence surveillance aircraft. He authored the ACC supplement to the Air Force aircraft structural integrity program and aerospace equipment structural management regulation.

While at ACC, Dr. Norcross has led the predictive maintenance work and conducted research to identify areas for improved prediction accuracy. His efforts have resulted in new requirements and process improvements for collecting and cleansing historical maintenance records. Additionally, he is leading a team to build sensor-based algorithms for near-real-time predictive maintenance alerts for maintenance actions to prevent unscheduled aircraft maintenance.

He has investigated and analyzed over 300 accident investigations and recommendations throughout his military and civil service career. As a result, he has studied and researched tools and techniques to proactively prevent aircraft electrical failures and fires. Currently, he leads three teams in the implementation of an automated wire test set, improving aircraft systems reliability and aircraft availability.

Dr. Norcross has presented at conferences and general officer meetings as a recognized expert in aviation maintenance, engineering and safety. Beyond his past and present achievements, he is a certificated airframe and powerplant mechanic, avid woodworker, aircraft and automotive repair and creates 3D-printed items.

He is always eager to interact with students and aviation professionals. Learning and sharing information is his passion, so feel free to reach out.
