Dr. Mankbadi has served as the Founding  Dean of the Embry-Riddle College of Engineering and as the Research Director (2002-2007). During his tenure as the Dean, the Freshmen, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering programs were established. Over 25 new outstanding faculty members were recruited; Scholarly publications and research expenditure have increased sustainably. While doubling the tuition, the undergraduate enrollment has increased by over 30%. The USNWR ranked the AE program as # 1 as of October 2000 among the non-PhD programs. The college ranking has moved up from 19th in 2000 to 9th in 2006 when compared to over one hundred corresponding schools.
Prior to moving to Embry-Riddle, Dr. Mankbadi has served as a Senior Scientist & Fellow at NASA, and as a Professor at Rutgers and Cairo Universities. He has published several books and over one hundred refereed technical articles. He has contributed significantly to the advancement of science in the areas of Propulsion, Aeroacoustics, Turbulence, and Energy. His research has been funded by the NSF, NASA, AFOSR, and other agencies and industries. He has co-founded the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP) with nearly $15 Million in State funding.
Dr. Mankbadi has served in various National Committees including the NSF & Defense Scholarships Selection Panels, NASA HQ Advisory Committee, ASEE Council of Deans, Florida Council of Deans, AIAA Technical Committees, Chaired the scientific Committee for several ASME conferences. He has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Energy Resources, Journal of Turbulence, and the Journal of Aeroacoustics.
Dr. Mankbadi has received several honors and awards in recognition of his scientific contributions. This includes selection as one of only six Fellows of the NASA Lewis Research Academy; and as an Ohio Board of Regents Professor. He received the Federal Service/ NASA Sustained Superior Performance Award; the Presidential Medal (Egypt) of the Sciences and Arts of the First Order; Fellow of the Royal Norwegian Council of Scientific & Industrial Research; Fellow of the German National Scholarship Foundation; U.S. Fulbright Scholar, and is elected ASME Fellow.
