Dr. Justin R. Heim, EFO is an adjunct assistant professor in the College of Arts & Sciences. He specializes in teaching and mentoring students in fire science and emergency management, leveraging his extensive background in public safety leadership and education.
Dr. Heim holds a Ph.D. in Business with a concentration in Public Administration from Northcentral University, where his research focused on interdepartmental politics and leadership in volunteer fire departments. He also earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Additionally, he is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's prestigious Executive Fire Officer Program.
Dr. Heim's research interests include leadership development, public safety policy, and emergency management education. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field through awards such as the Robert G. Mayes Sr. Distinguished Faculty Award and the Outstanding Professor Award. His work at Embry-Riddle includes fostering student success in research, emphasizing the practical application of theoretical principles to real-world challenges.
Outside of academia, Dr. Heim has served as a fire chief, senior research consultant, and project manager, contributing to critical projects in emergency response, policy development and organizational leadership. He remains actively engaged in professional organizations, including the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the National Society of Executive Fire Officers.
