Dr. João S. D. Garcia is an assistant professor in the School of Graduate Studies within the College of Aviation. An accomplished aviation safety expert, Dr. Garcia brings extensive experience across regulatory and operational domains, having held both technical and executive roles at the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and in the aerospace industry.
For more than a decade, he has contributed to global aviation safety as a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Safety Management Panel (SMP), serving two terms as the Panel’s Vice-Chair.
Dr. Garcia holds a Ph.D. in Aviation from ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ and additional degrees in electrical, aeronautical and mechanical engineering. His research integrates aviation safety, public governance and advanced analytics, with publications in several leading transportation and aviation journals. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and an active participant in multiple international safety and risk analysis organizations.
