Dr. Alex Rister is an assistant professor of Communication and Program Chair for the Bachelor of Science in Communication ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµâ€™s Worldwide Campus. She holds M.A. degrees in both Communication and English and a Ph.D. in Texts and Technology from the University of Central Florida.
Her research aligns with her professional service and community volunteer work on communication for social change, especially on issues important to girls and women. As a prior University of Central Florida Francis Bok Human Trafficking Awareness Fellow, much of her work focuses on human trafficking awareness. Her research has been published in the Journal of Applied Communication Research; International Journal of Strategic Communication; Media, War & Conflict; Journal of Business and Technical Communication; Journal of Public Interest Communication; and others.
Alex is active with the National Communication Association's Activism and Social Justice Division as Vice Chair Elect, the Southern States Communication Association's Applied Communication Division as Vice Chair and the Global Association of Human Trafficking Scholars (GAHTS). She is Past President of the Junior League of Greater Orlando, a women’s civic leadership nonprofit organization, and served a two year term on the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) Governance Committee.
