Dr. Alan Stolzer serves as Dean of the College of Aviation at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµâ€™s Daytona Beach Campus, overseeing the academic programs, faculty and operations of one of the largest aviation-focused colleges in the world. He is also a Professor of Doctoral Studies, teaching Safety Management Systems (SMS) in Embry-Riddle’s Ph.D. in Aviation program.
With more than three decades in academic leadership, Dr. Stolzer spent 22 years at Parks College of Saint Louis University as a faculty member, department chair and associate dean before joining Embry-Riddle.
An active researcher, Dr. Stolzer has led several federally funded projects in aviation safety and is the lead author of two books on Safety Management Systems published by Taylor & Francis. His research interests include SMS, Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) and Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA).
Dr. Stolzer holds a Ph.D. in Quality Systems from Indiana State University, as well as degrees from Embry-Riddle and the College of the Ozarks. He is an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), and Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic. He previously served as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), issuing over 100 certificates and ratings and has logged more than 8,000 pilot-in-command hours.
In addition to his aviation credentials, Dr. Stolzer holds Quality Auditor, Quality Engineer, and Quality Manager certifications from the American Society for Quality and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). In 2014, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Prior to his academic career, Stolzer held positions as a Pilot and Chief Pilot at multiple Part 135 companies flying passengers, cargo, and air ambulance.
Stolzer also served as a Designated Pilot Examiner, issuing more than 100 certificates and ratings on behalf of the FAA. He served as FAR Part 141 Chief Instructor for ground and flight courses through Certificated Flight Instructor.
