Biography
Hamid received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from Manchester University/UK, B.Eng. (1st class honors) in Mechanical Engineering from Tehran University, MBS Post-Graduate Certificates in International Business & Finance from Manchester Business School/UK, and a French Diploma from CAVILAM/France
Hamid is Principal Lecturer (Industry) – IPS11 at the School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic. He has seven years of working experience in the aircraft industry and 18 years at higher education institutes. He has been associate dean, deputy director, aircraft designer and lecturer in the UK, Iran, Malaysia and Singapore in the last 28 years. He supervised final projects of over 20 Ph.D./M.S.c, 80 B.Sc. and 140 diploma graduates at nine universities and polytechnics.
After residing in the UK for 10 years, Hamid came to Malaysia in October 2003 to be a lecturer at the University of Science Malaysia (USM) for three years. He was appointed as Deputy Director in Avcen Limited UK/Malaysia in 2006-2009 and had 18-month research collaborations with Cambridge University and Imperial College/UK in air-taxi design, fabrication and composite materials. He was Associate Dean of the American Degree Transfer Program at Taylor's University/College in Kuala Lumpur before coming to Singapore on Feb 2011 to join Republic Polytechnic as Senior Academic Staff. He has been Adjunct Faculty and External Supervisor for the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), UK's Newcastle University and the University of Glasgow in Singapore since 2012.
Hamid is the Principal Investigator (PI) of several funded industry-application projects in Smart MRO systems and composite repair and leading research teams, and BSc/PhD students in cooperation with universities.
With the support and contributions from the research team, management and colleagues at Republic Polytechnic's School of Engineering, Hamid received several awards. For example, the Most Innovative Project Award from JEC Group (France) in 2015, conferred the Crescendas Medal for Outstanding Applied Physics Research from the Institute of Physics Singapore (IPS) in 2017, Outstanding Innovator Award 2018 from the Ministry of Education and PST ExCEL Innovation Champion Award from Public Service Division (PSD) in 2018. He wrote two chapters in two technical books and was profiled in the new edition of the book, "Who's Who in Engineering, Singapore" by The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) on 21 Nov 2020. He received the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2021 from the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) in the category "Applied Research and Development" on 11 Nov 2021.
Hamid has a total of 103 publications and conference papers together with his research team in the fields of aircraft design, aerospace/aviation safety systems, aircraft composite repair, MRO smart systems, aviation management and engineering education.
Hamid is a Singaporean citizen who enjoys spending time with his family and having an active lifestyle. In his spare time, he likes to play table tennis, swim, bowl, play chess, watch football, and enjoy Latin music, culture and entertainment.
